Bangladesh's 2005 India Tour
Cancelled/postponed/scrapped!!
Bangladesh's proposed tour of India in April next year for a
full Test and one-day series has been scrapped with cricket
boards in both the countries finding it tough to squeeze it
in an already crammed itinerary.
Though Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) secretary
S K Nair said an offical confirmation could be made in this
regard only after ''some more communication'' between the cricket
boards of both the countries, he admitted ''Postponing the tour
was on the cards since we were hard pressed for time.'' '' It
was always an option and I'm also aware that Bangladesh Cricket
Board (BCB) president Ali Asghar has already made an announcement
that the tour has been deferred,'' he said. Under the ICC
Future Test Programme (FTP), India would have to host Bangladesh
next year.
Earlier, news reports in Dhaka quoted the BCB chief as saying,
''I have had talks with the officials of the BCCI...and it has
been decided that we will not tour India in April. It is mainly
because both the sides (are) pressed for time.'' India
is scheduled to host Pakistan in March-April for three Test
and five one-dayer matches. Bangladesh, on the other hand,
will tour England in May.
BCCI has the option of hosting Bangladesh in June-July. Earlier
last year, India had deferred its tour of Bangladesh to December
because of the Pakistan
tour. |
